What do you notice when the world turns green?

Learn to see food & medicine everywhere!

Do you know your Greens?

The wild green jungle of the Blue Ridge Mountains has been going off over the past few months - but have you noticed how this weeks rain really made everything EXPLODE into walls of green growth?

How lucky are we to live in a real life rainforest, with countless shades of vibrant green life everywhere you look this time of year?

A great gift of learning wild food and medicine is learning to see not just the beautiful “green wall” of the fields and forests, but to begin being able to recognize the patterns, subtly different hues, and know the names and gifts of the unbelievable abundance of plants & fungi that humans have built relationships with over centuries or millennia.

And did you know that humans can see more differing shades of green than of any other color- maybe for the very purpose of helping build those plant relationships?

If you want to start building a deeper relationship with the wild world, it is a great time of year to meet the plants of our rainforest!

Join an upcoming walk, book a class, or schedule a floral & fungal survey of your own property.

Community Walks

It has been SUCH a delight to leading our wild food community this spring. We have a wonderful crew of excited, curious, and joyful budding (no pun intended) foragers, and each week we meet, taste, and even take home a few new wild foods as they come into ripeness.

I started these series to offer a low-cost & easy-entry into getting to know the common and abundant wild foods of our area, while building community around love of the wild world. Getting out and seeing the plants regularly is the best way to get to know them well! Walks are close to town (Asheville), and run from 5:30-7pm on Tuesdays.

There are only four walks left for the season before we take a break until late summer! And we only have 3 spots left per walk…. don’t miss out on this great chance to learn wild foods and make wild friends. Only $35 per walk and sliding scale pricing always available for those who need it.

Foraging Now

What are we foraging now? So much. So so much. This week I’m gathering honeysuckle, rose, greenbrier, nettle, spruce tips, red & white clover, lambsquarters, mulberry & strawberry & persimmon & raspberry leaves, fragrant bedstraw, lilac, black locust blossoms, and so much more. And maybe even some mushrooms soon now that it has rained!

But one of my very favorite flavors of the season - not to mention one of the easiest possible wild food recipes- is honeysuckle cream. You may know the tiny sweet drop of nectar you can gently extract from the blossoms, but did you know you can capture the whole sweet-scent-of-summer-arriving-on-the-breeze of the entire flower? Then you can make whipped cream, honeysuckle flavored baked goods, ICE CREAM, or just sip on it like a little hummingbird (that likes dairy?…)

Wanna see how it’s done? Here, I made you this reel!

Remember- there is lots to learn with foraging, so please always do your research before eating anything new to you - or better yet, come learn with me in-person. ❤️
